Welcome!

My mother died Good Friday.

It's taken me this long to get to where I could write about this. It was very sudden and unexpected, and I miss her horribly.

Mom was my first, best, and biggest fan. She was probably terrified at the idea that I would quit a stable job as a computer programmer and try to support myself writing, but she never said anything about it, other than to ask a little anxiously if I had more contracts.

The one good thing is that the very last thing she heard from me, the night before, was when I told her how much I loved her and that I would be calling her Friday night.

Go call your mothers and fathers. Tell them you love them. Do it now.

We lost. NCSoft killed our world at 11:59:59 PST on November 30. One by one, the servers came down. And my beloved characters...are gone.

I could not bear thinking of my beloved Bella, alone, waiting in the deserted CCCP base for the Emptiness to take her. So I have given her a final story, so she is, at last, with her one true love again.

But we are not done fighting. As Winston Churchill said, this is just the end of the beginning.

Firstly, I want to say this about NCSoft. They have, single-handedly, destroyed fully 1/3 of all MMORPGs to be shut down all by themselves. Furthermore, the number of games that have been killed then gone on to be revived again thanks to companies that understood the passion and community of the players actually more than outnumbers the five games that NCSoft is cybersquatting on, like a vulture on carcasses it is too bloated to eat. So consider this, when you are deciding where to put your gaming dollars. Do you want to put your time, effort, and money into a game run by a company that can yank it out from under you with no consideration or warning? Do you want to take the chance on a company with no ethics, one that was deleting the customer accounts of players that were protesting on its Facebook page? If you go ahead ans sink your money and time, and passion, into an NCSoft game...well, don't say you weren't warned.

Meanwhile, we City of Heroes players are not going gently into that good night. We have formed a group dedicated to finding the game a new home--and to making things so uncomfortable for the NCSoft management by simply telling the truth over and over that they are forced by their stockholders to sell the game to a new owner.

Please join me and the rest of Team Wildcard in Task Force Hail Mary.

If you've found this site, you've either made a mistake in looking for a fine German automobile, or your idea of proper transportation is a pure white, blue-eyed horse that talks to you in your head, a shape-changing dragon, a hot racecar employing technology that isn't exactly "off the shelf", or a basket hung between two magnificent gryphons.

If it's the latter, welcome! I'm Mercedes Lackey, and together with my husband and partner Larry Dixon, and collaborators Rosemary Edgehill, Roberta Gellis, Josepha Sherman, James Mallory, and Eric Flint and Dave Freer, I write books. Lots and lots of books; we're well over fifty now, and I fully intend to surpass Isaac Asimov's total of a hundred before too long. You'll find all manner of information about those books and the worlds in them if you go hunting around in this site. You'll also find some information about us as well---but not too much, I hope, just enough to give you some ideas and fun things you might want to get into yourselves. This site is really meant to be about the work and the worlds and how to enhance your enjoyment, not to be a big old Hollywood Star ego-fest for me!

And if you're looking for a fine German automobile, you probably want the Mercedes Benz site. Tell them I sent you.

Wind to thy wings!
